Hormuz tanker traffic halts amid escalating U.S.-Iran military tensions
Oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz came to a near standstill on Thursday as shipping risks escalated following renewed U.S. airstrikes on Iran and subsequent retaliation by Tehran. Just two tankers transited the strait in early hours, with the crude supertanker Berg 1 and chemical tanker Well Sail among them. Daily traffic in the past two weeks had averaged 40 ships, far below the pre-conflict average of 125 to 140 daily sailings.
