Taiwan Orders Ships to Ignore Chinese Coast Guard Inspections
Hsieh Ching-chin, Deputy Chief of Taiwan's Coast Guard, has ordered commercial vessels to ignore demands for boarding and inspection from China. The Taiwanese institution will intervene if necessary. China conducted patrols last month in waters off Taiwan's east coast, 180 km away, calling it a "special maritime traffic law enforcement operation," which raised concerns in the United States, Britain, France, and Germany.
