MSC Containership Damaged in Apparent Attack Off Iraq
A Panama-flagged containership MSC Sariska V was struck by an unknown projectile approximately 40 nautical miles southeast of Umm Qasr, Iraq, marking the third reported attack in Iraqi territorial waters since the U.S.-Iran conflict began on February 28. The vessel sustained significant damage on its starboard side and a subsequent fire, with analysts suggesting a possible uncrewed surface vessel (USV) attack. The incident underscores growing security concerns in the northern Arabian Gulf as shipping executives warn that future U.S.-Iran agreements must include credible security guarantees.
