The Argentine Naval Prefecture is participating in the Multinational Exercise GALAPEX 2026, which is taking place in the Republic of Ecuador, as part of an international initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation, interoperability, and the capabilities of forces and agencies linked to maritime security.
As part of this event, the Director of Maritime, Fluvial, and Lacustrine Traffic, General Prefect Néstor Kiferling, visited the maritime patrol vessel B.A.P. "Río Pativilca" (PM-204), belonging to the Peruvian Navy, a unit participating in the multinational exercise. The presence of the Peruvian vessel constitutes an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and knowledge on operational procedures, capabilities, and techniques used in maritime surveillance and control tasks.
Within the framework of the activities planned for this edition, the sessions corresponding to the Boarding Course began, a training instance aimed at the training and improvement of procedures related to the approach, boarding, inspection, and control of vessels in the maritime environment.
The event allowed for learning about the characteristics and operational capabilities of the Peruvian unit, as well as exchanging experiences with its crew, strengthening professional ties between the participating institutions and favoring the adoption of compatible procedures for the development of combined operations.
It should be noted that GALAPEX 2026 is organized by the Ecuadorian Navy and has as one of its main objectives to strengthen the interoperability of a Multinational Task Force to confront illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and other related illicit activities.
For this edition, the Ecuadorian authorities reported the call for 19 countries, which accounts for the international dimension achieved by this exercise and the importance of cooperation between States to face threats that transcend national borders.
During the exercise, training activities, drills, and exchange of procedures related to maritime security, vessel inspection, crisis management, communications, and coordination of operations are carried out, with the purpose of increasing the joint response capacity of the participating institutions.
The participation of the Prefecture, as a Maritime Authority, allows it to contribute the experience acquired over decades in terms of surveillance, inspection, and control of maritime spaces and fishing activity, while also making it possible to incorporate knowledge and experiences from the participating maritime authorities and forces.
In this sense, the visit to the B.A.P. "Río Pativilca" and participation in the Boarding Course constitute concrete instances of professional exchange and interoperability, which contribute to mutual understanding and the coordination of procedures among the institutions that make up the Multinational Task Force.
