The Biminister of Interior and Segegob, Claudio Alvarado, along with the Biminister of Public Works, Transport and Telecommunications, Louis de Grange, visited the Cristo Redentor Integrated System (Los Libertadores Border Complex) to verify on-site the operation of its partial reopening, after its closure on July 14 due to intense snowstorms.
Biminister Louis de Grange highlighted that "after 34 days of closure of Los Libertadores Pass, we have managed to open it and have seen a significant flow of trucks coming from Argentina. The provision of logistics, the entire issue of supply is fundamental, and in particular, this pass represents 50% of the cargo that enters our country. Every hour, every day that trucks are stopped has not only an economic impact but also an impact on the provision of food and supplies."
Meanwhile, Biminister Claudio Alvarado emphasized the importance of Los Libertadores Pass: "This is the most important pass our country has from the point of view of the flow of cargo entering Chile by land. Since the climatic adversity began on July 14, work has been carried out continuously with the purpose of clearing the roads, facing the consequences of the mudslides, and reaching the conditions we can appreciate today, which will allow approximately 1,200 trucks to enter our country today and take their cargo to its destination."
From Tuesday, August 18, Wednesday, August 19, and Thursday, August 20, traffic will be from Argentina to Chile, only for land cargo transport, from 08:00 to 20:00 Chilean time (09:00 to 21:00 Argentine time). In a single direction from Argentina to Chile up to Guardia Vieja, given that after that point, traffic is normal.
Meanwhile, on Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22, traffic will be from Chile to Argentina, only for land cargo transport, from 08:00 to 20:00 Chilean time (09:00 to 21:00 Argentine time). In a single direction from Chile to Argentina up to Uspallata, given that traffic is normal afterward.
For safety reasons, traffic for other vehicles will not be enabled. Conditions for smaller vehicles and buses will be informed in due course.
The MOP's Roads Directorate, as part of the winter operation, maintains uninterrupted work on international route 60 CH, with teams operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For these tasks, they have 23 officials and 19 specialized equipment and machinery, including bulldozers, snowplows, salt trucks, front loaders, and motor graders.
