Atlas Ocean Voyages unveiled its 2028/29 Antarctic season, featuring 25 yacht-style expeditions operating between October 2028 and March 2029. The new season expands the Drake Fly & Sail program, which grows from two departures in 2027/28 to four in 2028/29.
Three ways to cross the Drake
The company offers three ways to cross the Drake Passage. Drake Fly & Sail combines, across four nine-night expeditions, a sea crossing on one leg with a private charter flight on the other. Drake Express features two seven-night expeditions that fly over the Drake Passage in both directions, leaving six full days to explore the Antarctic Peninsula. Antarctic Discovery, meanwhile, retains the classic round-trip sea crossing on nine-night voyages.
Voyages beyond the Peninsula
The season adds itineraries that go beyond the Antarctic Peninsula. Two 12-night expeditions under the name Crossing the Antarctic Circle will sail south of 66°33' South, with seven days of exploration in remote areas of Antarctica. The 18-night Grand Antarctica voyage, departing January 7, 2029, combines the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.
Centennial of the flight over Antarctica
The season coincides with the centennial of the pioneering flight by Sir Hubert Wilkins and Carl Ben Eielson, who departed from Deception Island on November 16, 1928, on the first powered flight over the continent. To mark the occasion, Atlas's Antarctic Discovery expedition will depart exactly 100 years later, on November 16, 2028.
Each polar expedition will be led by multidisciplinary teams of up to 17 experts and includes optional activities such as kayaking and Antarctic camping on select departures. According to James A. Rodriguez, President and CEO of Atlas Ocean Voyages, the 2028/29 season gives guests more ways to experience this transformative destination without losing what defines an Atlas Polar Expedition: intimate exploration, expert-led discovery and personalized service aboard its yachts.
Booking benefits
To launch the season, Atlas is offering up to an additional 10% savings plus complementary Explorer's Choice benefits. According to PRNewswire and Cruise Industry News, these benefits include up to $2,000 in air savings per suite, while Seatrade Cruise reported air savings of up to £1,500 per suite; in both cases, guests can also opt for a one-night hotel package or enhanced unlimited Wi-Fi. Those who book before December 31, 2026, will be able to lock in current rates before a new pricing structure takes effect on January 1, 2027.
