Azamara Cruises announced that its ship Azamara Journey will enter dry dock for two weeks, between November 16 and 30, 2028, as part of the Azamara Forward refurbishment program that the cruise line has been rolling out across its fleet. It is the third ship in the company to join this upgrade scheme.
Scope of the upgrades
The work will include a redesign of the Discoveries Restaurant, the introduction of a dedicated Chef's Table experience, a new concept for the Atlas Bar, the transformation of the Cabaret Lounge and a complete renovation of the Sanctum Spa, in addition to updates to staterooms, suites and public spaces in general. Splash Cruise noted that the ship, with a gross tonnage of 30,000 tons, will also receive upgrades to accommodations, restaurants, lounges and new dining and entertainment venues.
No Penthouse Deck
Unlike the Azamara Quest, which added a new Penthouse Deck with additional premium accommodations, the Azamara Journey will retain its current deck configuration, as the company had previously announced.
Statements from the CEO
Azamara Cruises CEO Dondra Ritzenthaler said that the Azamara Forward program allows the ships to be refurbished while preserving the essence that passengers value about sailing with the line, creating spaces where guests can connect, enjoy the dining and entertainment, and feel at home between destinations.
Fleet schedule and return to service
The Azamara Quest was the first to go through this process, with a dry dock in November 2026 and its first sailing after the refurbishment scheduled for December 18, 2026, while the Azamara Onward will receive its upgrades in 2027. According to Splash Cruise, the company has not yet set a refurbishment schedule for the Azamara Pursuit, the fleet's fourth ship, and has not disclosed either the investment earmarked for the Journey's refit or the shipyard that will carry out the work. Once the work is completed, the Azamara Journey will resume service on November 30, 2028, with a 12-night voyage through Greece and Egypt, departing from and returning to Athens.
