Sobrinos de Manuel Cámara, the company that operates Bergé's terminal at the Port of Pasajes, has added three new Liebherr cranes, increasing the units in service at the terminal from two to five. With this expansion, total handling capacity rose from 268 to 392 tonnes, a 46% increase, while the capacity of the mobile cranes more than doubled, rising from 38 to 78 tonnes.
Greater flexibility for a multipurpose terminal
The new cranes add to the incorporation of specialized machinery for the transport and handling of goods, such as tractor units, terminal tractors, flatbeds and specialized trailers. According to the company, this reinforcement aims to expand the solutions offered to the market, gain operational flexibility and improve responsiveness to the evolving bulk, container, project cargo and general cargo traffic handled by the terminal.
Safety and environmental control
The company has also begun upgrading works at its warehouses to update fire protection systems, in line with the requirements for the storage and handling of steel products. In parallel, it has introduced a new misting system for scrap handling operations, aimed at reducing dust generation and dispersion during port handling.
A port with a strong steel profile
These measures come within a port closely tied to the steel industry. According to Pasaia's official 2025 figures, steel products accounted for 1,748,631 tonnes, close to 52% of total throughput, while scrap traffic grew by 65.4% that year, providing context for the new handling and safety measures announced by Sobrinos de Manuel Cámara.
