Brazil's Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, signed the lease agreement for the MCP01 terminal at the Port of Santana, in the state of Amapá, this Friday, October 23. In the afternoon, alongside Paraíba's governor, Lucas Ribeiro, he also signed an addendum to the agreement for works at the Port of Cabedelo. The contract for the Amapá terminal provides for investments of R$ 150.2 million, while the Paraíba addendum adds a further R$ 6.7 million for dredging and rock removal works.
MCP01 Terminal in Santana
The MCP01 terminal, intended for the handling and storage of solid vegetable bulk cargo such as soybeans and corn, will receive the R$ 150.2 million in investments over the 25 years of the lease agreement. The works include the installation of conveyor belts and a new ship loader, as well as interventions on the berths and onshore infrastructure. The terminal had been awarded to the company CS Infra S.A. in an auction held in February of this year.
Dredging Works in Cabedelo
In Cabedelo, the R$ 6.7 million addendum corresponds to Commitment Term No. 003/2026 and is earmarked for dredging and rock removal works in the inner access channel and the turning basin. With this update, the project's total investment rises to R$ 71.15 million, of which R$ 44.45 million comes from federal funds and R$ 26.70 million from the state's counterpart contribution. The intervention will widen the turning basin's diameter from 330 to 450 meters, allowing the port to receive vessels of up to 330 meters in length overall (LOA), including cruise ships.
Cargo Volumes and Other Projects in Santana
The Port of Santana, located on the banks of the Amazon River, is part of the Arco Norte logistics corridor used to export agricultural production from Brazil's Center-West region. In 2025, it handled around 3.6 million tonnes of cargo, up 13.54% from 2024, and in the first two months of 2026 it reached 403 thousand tonnes, 6.52% above the same period of the previous year. Between 2023 and 2026, the lease agreements for the MCP01 and MCP03 terminals total R$ 239.1 million in planned investments, in addition to a R$ 11.6 million revitalization of access roads, with works scheduled between November 2026 and November 2027.
Statements and Other Visits
During the ceremony, Tomé Franca highlighted Santana's strategic role in linking Center-West soybean production with the international market, while the Minister of Regional Integration and Development, Waldez Góes, stressed the importance of port infrastructure for a region lacking land connections. The mayor of Santana, Sebastião Bala Rocha, and the director of Companhia Docas de Santana, Edival Cabral Tork, also took part in the event. The agenda also included a visit to the passenger port facility known as Porto do Povo, which received a federal investment of approximately R$ 34 million.
