Carnival Corporation announced a reassignment of ships among its brands: Queen Anne, Cunard's current flagship, will move to P&O Cruises in 2029 after completing its 2028-29 world cruise, while P&O Cruises' Arcadia will be transferred to Holland America Line once a farewell season concludes on August 21, 2029.
The Future of Queen Anne
Queen Anne, launched in May 2024 and with capacity for 3,000 passengers, will continue sailing for Cunard until completing its 2028-29 world cruise, which will include a central role in the Four Queens celebration in Liverpool in May 2028 and its final World Voyage as a Cunard ship in January 2029. It will then undergo an extensive refit and be renamed before joining the P&O Cruises fleet in May 2029, where it will introduce a new ship class for the brand.
Cunard Focuses on Its Three Queens
According to Paul Ludlow, president of Carnival UK, P&O Cruises and Cunard, the change will allow Cunard to have a more unified fleet centered on Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth. Ludlow added that a major upgrade to Queen Mary 2, the world's only ocean liner in regular service, will be completed next year, while Queen Victoria will undergo a refit dry dock imminently.
Arcadia Joins Holland America
Arcadia, which according to Cruise Critic debuted in 2005 and has been with P&O Cruises for more than two decades -although Seatrade Cruise placed its entry into the brand in 2025-, will join Holland America Line as its twelfth ship after its farewell season. There it will join its Vista-class sister ships Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam, adding more than 2,000 additional berths and greater flexibility to the brand's global deployment.
Holland America's Evolution
The addition of Arcadia is part of the Holland America Evolution program, which has already included new offerings such as the Grand Dutch Café, the renovation of the Ocean Bar, the Bridgeview Suites and Solo Verandah cabins on Oosterdam and Zuiderdam. Oosterdam will debut these enhancements in fall 2027 and Zuiderdam in April 2028, while the features to be added to Arcadia will be defined in the coming months. Holland America Line President Beth Bodensteiner described the ship as a natural fit given the brand's strong demand.
