The Port Authority of Castellón presented the new program of activities for the Castelló PortLab External Innovation Committee, an open innovation space that connects the port community with companies, technology players and organizations from the innovation ecosystem. The new call incorporates 16 new companies, bringing the committee's total to 28 participating entities.
A more diverse committee
According to the Port Authority, this expansion strengthens the diversity of capabilities and experience within the committee and will make it possible to move beyond knowledge-sharing toward identifying opportunities, experimentation and collaboration on solutions applicable to the port-logistics environment. The program combines training, hands-on workshops, technical visits, business debate and co-creation spaces, and for the first months of the term it includes a comprehensive program structured around nine lines of action.
Continuity of the 2025/26 work
During the 2025/26 period, the committee held six sessions focused on financing, the energy transition, digitalization, identifying and prioritizing challenges, talent and social impact, and co-creating solutions, which helped strengthen capabilities and laid the groundwork for tackling the port ecosystem's main challenges. The new call builds on that work with a more practical approach, aiming for companies to learn about real-world cases, test needs against reality, identify partners and turn shared challenges into pilot projects and improvement decisions. Throughout the first half of 2027, the committee will address areas such as data governance, smart technology procurement, mapping financing opportunities, change management, open innovation with startups, and the structuring of the 2030 Strategic Council.
Schedule of activities
The calendar will kick off with the session "Efficient Port: the future of energy terminals," which will include a workshop and a technical visit to Portsur's facilities to examine the energy transition, electrification and the use of renewables in terminal operations. In November, technology firm Cuatroochenta will host a session on digitalization and applied artificial intelligence, featuring real use cases to optimize processes and speed up strategic decision-making. In December, an online cybersecurity webinar will be held on protecting connected environments, IT/OT convergence and operational resilience.
With this new program, the Port Authority of Castellón reinforces Castelló PortLab as a stable space for engagement and co-creation, in which the External Innovation Committee will continue to serve as a link between the port's innovation strategy and the capabilities, challenges and opportunities of its business and technology environment. The goal is to consolidate an active community, facilitate knowledge transfer and create the conditions for ideas to evolve into projects that have an impact on the efficiency, sustainability, digitalization, safety and competitiveness of the Port of Castellón.
