CMA CGM held the naming ceremony for its latest methanol-powered vessel, christened CMA CGM Lorenzaccio, with a capacity of 15,000 TEU. The vessel was built by Chinese shipyard CSSC and will sail under the Malta flag.
Technical Specifications
According to Portal Portuario, the vessel has a length overall of approximately 360 meters and a beam of 51 meters. Baird Maritime, however, reported that the length overall is 366 meters, with the same beam, a gross tonnage of 155,613 and a deadweight of 156,100 tonnes. The outlet also noted that the ship features an optimized hull form, a high-efficiency propeller and an energy-saving rudder bulb, in addition to capacity for carrying refrigerated and dangerous goods containers.
Literary Tribute and Service
CMA CGM explained that the vessel's name pays tribute to the protagonist of the work by Alfred de Musset, as part of its commitment to the goal of Net Zero Emissions by 2050. The company stated that the ship, under the command of Captain Predrag Vojvodic, will join its REX2 service. Baird Maritime, for its part, noted that the vessel will be deployed on the independent service the carrier operates to and from the Red Sea region, and that it is the sixth in a series of vessels named after characters from French literature.
Construction and Early Delivery
According to Baird Maritime, the CMA CGM Lorenzaccio was built by CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC), and was delivered 16 days ahead of the contractual date. The outlet recalled that previous vessels in the same newbuilding program include the CMA CGM Eugenie, christened in Shanghai in December 2025, and the CMA CGM Monte Cristo, delivered in January with an 11,000 cubic meter methanol tank.
Baird Maritime added that CMA CGM aims to operate around 200 container ships capable of using low-carbon energy by 2031.
