CMA CGM Group announced the completion of its acquisition of FedEx Supply Chain, the contract logistics subsidiary of FedEx Corp, for an enterprise value of $1.4 billion. The deal strengthens the presence of CEVA Logistics, the logistics arm of the French shipping group, in North America and is part of CMA CGM's strategy to offer end-to-end logistics solutions spanning ocean freight, terminals, inland transport and warehousing.
Expansion in North America
With the addition of FedEx Supply Chain's assets and roughly 10,000 employees, CEVA Logistics becomes one of the leading contract logistics providers in the region. The acquisition triples the company's footprint in North America: according to Portal Portuario, it adds nearly 3.2 million square meters of warehouse space, while freight waves and CMA CGM Group's statement note that approximately 34 million square feet are being added. The combined business will operate around 150 warehouses, raising CEVA's total presence in the region to more than 240 locations, with a workforce of roughly 20,000 employees.
Digital and sector capabilities
Beyond physical infrastructure, the deal combines complementary digital and operational capabilities and accelerates the rollout of automation and robotics across the North American network. According to freight waves, several FedEx Supply Chain facilities already feature advanced technology, and CEVA will also gain expertise in the healthcare, technology, consumer and retail sectors, enhancing its ability to manage complex supply chains in the United States and Canada.
Commercial agreements with FedEx
In parallel, CMA CGM and FedEx signed multi-year commercial agreements in ocean and air freight that enable greater global collaboration. CMA CGM will become FedEx's preferred ocean carrier under a non-exclusive agreement, and the two companies plan to cooperate on an air cargo capacity agreement on strategic routes, particularly between Asia and Europe, which will improve aircraft utilization and provide greater flexibility on long-haul routes.
Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Group, said that the completion of the acquisition marks an important milestone in the development of CMA CGM and CEVA Logistics in North America, and that the transaction confirms the company's long-term commitment to investing in the United States. freight waves adds that CMA CGM had hired Patrick Moebel, former head of FedEx Logistics, as CEO of CEVA Logistics last summer, and that FedEx Supply Chain accounts for less than 2% of FedEx's consolidated annual revenue, with FedEx now focusing on its freight transportation and package delivery services.
