Norwegian group DOF Group has agreed to sell its subsea construction vessel Skandi Implementer, built in 2018, to a buyer whose identity has not been disclosed. Delivery to the new owner is scheduled for the second quarter of 2027, and the company stated that the proceeds from the transaction will contribute to a significant reduction in the group's net debt.
Vessel Specifications and Statements
The Skandi Implementer has an overall length of 137.6 meters, a molded beam of 27 meters and capacity for 129 persons, as well as a 400-tonne offshore crane capable of operating at depths of up to 3,000 meters. DOF CEO Mons S. Aase noted that, while the company was not actively seeking to sell this high-end vessel, the terms are favorable for the group and its shareholders.
Recent History
The transaction adds to a series of recent divestments by DOF, which included the sale of the cable-layer Skandi Connector in May and of four platform supply vessels in July, the same month in which it also agreed to acquire two subsea construction support vessels currently being built at the PaxOcean shipyard in China. The Skandi Implementer had previously been linked to a long-term contract in Mexico, which DOF terminated in January 2025 following a payment default by the client; the company subsequently equipped the vessel with two of its own ROVs and secured subsea construction, installation and cable repair work in the Gulf of Mexico.
Possible Effects on Other Projects
The sale rules out the Skandi Implementer from potential assignment to a Class I vessel project scheduled for the first half of 2028, for which DOF had obtained a letter of intent and expects a final award by mid-November, with a contract valued between US$50 million and US$100 million. It also creates uncertainty regarding the vessel's participation in Modec's mooring pre-lay project for the Hammerhead FPSO, offshore Guyana, a contract DOF won in January and for which it had assigned the Skandi Implementer to pile installation and the Skandi Skansen to mooring line installation; offshore execution is scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2027, overlapping with the vessel's delivery to its new owner, with DOF yet to clarify whether it will ultimately take part in the campaign.
According to a Trade news report, the transaction values the vessel at US$147 million, within the framework of the DOF group, which is backed by businessman John Fredriksen.
