DP World announced the appointment of Jason Varsamidis as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and General Manager of its Asia Pacific region, effective immediately. In this role, Varsamidis will oversee the company's ports, terminals and logistics business across 22 markets, with a regional workforce of more than 12,000 employees.
Career within the company
Varsamidis has nearly three decades of experience within DP World and its predecessor P&O Ports, which he joined in 1997. Since 2020 he had served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of DP World Asia Pacific, a role in which he was involved in shaping regional strategy, investment decisions and the financial performance of the business. Before that, he spent seven years as CFO of DP World Australia, and throughout his career he has also been involved in mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure projects and corporate restructuring programmes.
Company statements
DP World Group CEO Yuvraj Narayan noted that Varsamidis is a highly respected leader with deep knowledge of the business and the markets in which the company operates, adding that his track record and commercial vision position him to lead Asia Pacific, one of the group's growth engines, while providing continuity of management. For his part, Varsamidis said he was honoured to lead DP World in the region and stated that he would work alongside the leadership team to maintain the business's momentum and advance the company's strategic priorities.
Focus of the new role
In his new role, Varsamidis will focus on driving regional strategy and operational performance, strengthening end-to-end supply chains and expanding DP World's integrated logistics capabilities to deliver greater value to customers. The company stated that arrangements to fill the Asia Pacific CFO position, which Varsamidis is vacating, will be announced separately.
Logistics expansion in the region
The appointment comes amid an expansion of DP World's logistics facilities in Southeast Asia. On August 20, the company had opened an 11,514-square-metre warehouse in Johor, Malaysia, within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, the first of two planned projects in that country, with a second warehouse in Kuala Lumpur scheduled for late 2026. On October 2, a logistics distribution centre of around 10,000 square metres was added in Bang Na, in the Bangkok metropolitan area, connected to the Port of Laem Chabang and to Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor, operating around the clock for high-value cargo such as consumer electronics, semiconductors and automotive products. DP World also indicated that it expects to open new facilities in Kuala Lumpur and the Philippines before the end of the year.
