DP World announced a new edition of its Elas na Operação program, a free initiative aimed at training women to operate internal container-handling tractor units, known as ITVs, in the port sector. Registration will be open from October 19 to 25 through an online form, and the program will run for 30 hours spread over two weeks.
Requirements and training
To take part, candidates must hold a valid Carteira Nacional de Habilitação (CNH) category E driver's license and a current Movimentação Operacional de Produtos Perigosos (MOPP) certification. The training combines technical and behavioral content, including knowledge of port equipment operation, professional development, and preparation for selection processes and job interviews. Part of the activities will take place on a SENAI simulator, while the remaining modules will be held at DP World's terminal in Santos (SP), led by company professionals. Those who complete the training will receive a certificate.
Company statements
Daniela Biscaro, DP World's Sustainability Supervisor in Brazil, stated that the company aims to have more women prepared and confident to take on roles in port operations, developing the skills needed to compete for opportunities in a sector that still has room to advance in diversity. According to Biscaro, the first edition of the program was successful, and this new call for applications continues a program that combines professional qualification, inclusion, and the creation of opportunities for the community.
Growth in female presence
According to data from DP World, the number of women working at its Santos terminal has grown by more than 220% since 2021. Currently, around 53% of the unit's female employees work in operational roles, and more than 100 operate equipment. The company also noted that it was the first Santos terminal to have a female ship-to-shore crane operator, in 2021, and a female portside equipment operator, in 2022.
Sector context
According to data released by the company in March 2026, the Santos terminal, operating since 2013, had 312 female employees, 36 of whom held leadership positions. That same month, Brazil's Ministry of Ports and Airports reported, based on ANTAQ's 2024 Pesquisa sobre Equidade de Gênero no Setor Aquaviário, that women accounted for 17.8% of jobs in Brazil's port sector. DP World also runs other initiatives to train women, such as the Emprega Mulheres program, launched in March 2026 together with the Santos City Hall for a cohort of 20 participants in a container inspection course.
