The Ferrol-San Cibrao Port Authority maintained a positive trend in its traffic figures during the first nine months of 2026. Between January and September, the docks of Ferrol and San Cibrao handled 5,296,854 tonnes, compared with 5,129,492 tonnes in the same period of 2025, representing an increase of 167,362 tonnes, equivalent to 3.26% growth, amid international uncertainty affecting shipping.
Liquid Bulk Drives Growth
The main driver of this increase was the performance of liquid bulk, which between January 1 and September 30 totaled 2,298,296 tonnes, up from 1,747,493 tonnes in the same period of 2025. The rise of 550,803 tonnes represented growth of 31.52%, with natural gas and fuel oil as the leading cargoes in this segment.
Decline in Solid Bulk and General Cargo
This growth in liquid bulk helped offset the decline recorded in solid bulk, which fell 12.57% to 2,322,455 tonnes. General cargo also decreased, dropping from 725,586 tonnes in 2025 to 676,102 tonnes in 2026, a decline that, according to Info Puertos, represents 6.82%.
Impact on Containerized Cargo
The Port Authority noted that geopolitical tensions are particularly affecting this traffic segment, with a notable impact on containerized cargo. At the Yilport terminal, 8,093 TEUs, equivalent to 104,843 tonnes, were handled up to September 30.
