Hai An Transport and Stevedoring, a Vietnamese shipping line listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, approved an investment of up to 70 million dollars for the construction of two 1,928 TEU feeder container ships. The vessels will be built at the Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard, also identified as Huangpu Wenchong, with the involvement of China Shipbuilding Trading, and will be delivered in late October and in November 2029, respectively.
Deal Details
According to splash247, a letter of intent signed in August valued the newbuilding package at 66.96 million dollars, equivalent to 33.48 million per vessel, while the remaining amount within the approved 70 million ceiling will cover initial outfitting, project staff and associated expenses.
Fleet Expansion
The new order adds to a broad fleet renewal program at Hai An. In November 2025 the company had contracted Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. to build up to four 7,100 TEU vessels, its largest container ships to date, through the joint venture Hai An Green Shipping Lines together with Viconship. In early 2025 it had also ordered two firm 3,000 TEU vessels, with an option for two more, at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding's Jiangsu New Yangzi shipyard.
Ranking Position
According to Alphaliner data cited by CNSS News China, Hai An ranks 73rd among the world's hundred largest container lines by capacity, with eight owned vessels totaling 11,057 TEU. The company also holds newbuilding orders for ten vessels totaling 46,484 TEU, equivalent to 420.4% of its current capacity.
