Kinetics announced the acquisition of the LNG carrier Arctic Voyager to convert it into a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) that will be named LNGT Akdeniz. The new unit will have a storage capacity of approximately 143,000 cubic meters, will feature Moss-type cargo tanks and an estimated service life of 20 years, and the converted vessel is expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2028.
Regasification data differs between sources
Sources provide differing figures regarding the regasification send-out rate of the future FSRU. According to the press release distributed by prnewswire, the LNGT Akdeniz will have a send-out rate of 650 million standard cubic feet per day, while Portal Portuario reported a rate of 60 million standard cubic meters per day. For its part, the joint statement from Seatrium and Karpowership indicated that the unit will have a regasification capacity of up to 600 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd).
Statements from Kinetics and Karpowership
Mehmet Katmer, General Manager of Kinetics, noted that the global LNG market continues to show strong demand for flexible, rapidly deployable regasification infrastructure, linked to energy supply security and the need for flexible import capacity. Zeynep Harezi Yılmaz, Chief Commercial Officer of Karpowership, stated that Kinetics is a natural extension of the group's integrated energy offering and that this fleet expansion strengthens the ability to help customers secure a reliable energy supply.
Seatrium to carry out the conversion
Singapore-based Seatrium formally confirmed that it will be the shipyard responsible for the conversion of the LNGT Akdeniz, marking the ninth FSRU conversion project between Karpowership and Seatrium. This is the second project to be finalized under the previously announced Letter of Intent (LOI) between the two companies, following the award of the LNGT Karadeniz. According to the joint statement, conversion work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Expansion of Karpowership's fleet
With the addition of the LNGT Akdeniz, Kinetics will expand its fleet of LNG assets to 12 vessels, including FSRUs and LNG carriers. Karpowership operates a fleet of 45 Powerships with an installed capacity of more than 8,500 MW, while Seatrium has a track record of 22 FSRU and FSU conversion projects completed since 2007.
