Konecranes has received an order from Eurogate Terminal Solutions GmbH to supply four automated stacking cranes (ASC) for the Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW) in Germany. The order was booked in the third quarter of 2026, with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2028. The agreement also includes an option to purchase four additional ASCs for Eurogate's Container Terminal Hamburg.
Automation and integration with other suppliers
The order is part of Eurogate's ongoing research and development efforts in terminal automation. The concept integrates the automated stacking cranes with the terminal's existing equipment to enable automated container transport and yard operations. As part of this strategy, Eurogate is adopting a vendor-independent approach, in which equipment from different manufacturers is connected through the terminal's equipment control system (ECS).
A relationship spanning more than five decades
The project extends a longstanding business relationship between Eurogate and Konecranes, which for more than five decades has supplied straddle carrier solutions to the company's German terminals. Konecranes was selected for this new order on the strength of its in-house automation expertise and its ability to meet Eurogate's operational and technical requirements.
Company statements
Axel Jachens, Project Manager at Eurogate Technical Services GmbH, noted that Konecranes demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting ETS-MT in advancing its operations toward yard automation, expressing confidence in the company's high-availability crane concept. For his part, Lasse Merenheimo, Vice President at Konecranes, stated that Eurogate is an important customer and that the company aims to support its long-term development with solutions combining proven automation technology, operational efficiency, and openness to customer-specific architectures.
Technical features
Konecranes' automated stacking cranes are designed for high-density operations in container yards and are built on a globally standardized platform, with more than 600 units delivered or in operation worldwide. They incorporate Active Load Control technology, which improves maneuvering precision and stability through integrated load sway prevention and positioning control, and their design aims to facilitate integration with complex automation environments and multi-vendor operating systems.
