MSC and ONE to Jointly Operate Ipanema Service Following Hapag-Lloyd's Exit
Cubierto por 3 fuentesPublicado
MSC and Ocean Network Express (ONE) will begin jointly operating the Ipanema service between Asia and the East Coast of South America starting in April 2027, after Hapag-Lloyd withdraws from the vessel sharing agreement (VSA) currently maintained by the three carriers on that route.
First Departure and Rotation
The first voyage under the new arrangement will depart from Shanghai on April 3, 2027. The service will continue to operate with weekly departures, and the full rotation will include Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Santos, Paranaguá, Navegantes, Montevideo, Buenos Aires and Rio Grande, with double calls at Paranaguá, Navegantes and Santos to cover both the inbound and outbound legs in South America.
More MSC Vessels
MSC indicated that it will deploy additional vessels as part of the new cooperation with ONE, though it did not specify the number of units or their capacity. The carrier noted that this reinforcement aims to strengthen its presence in Asia-East Coast South America trade, while also replacing the units withdrawn by Hapag-Lloyd in order to maintain service continuity and container-carrying capacity.
Background on the Current Agreement
Hapag-Lloyd, MSC and ONE currently jointly deploy 13 vessels on the Ipanema/SX1 service between Asia and the East Coast of South America. Hapag-Lloyd's withdrawal from that VSA, confirmed in October 2026, entails a new reconfiguration of services between Asia and Brazil, which will take effect with the Shanghai departure on April 3, 2027.
