Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) announced the implementation of an Emergency Operations Surcharge (EOS) for shipments from Greece, Turkey, the Black Sea and the Adriatic at non-Italian ports bound for Northwest Europe (NWC), the UK and the Scanbaltia region. The measure will take effect on November 1, 2026, based on the bill of lading (B/L) date, and will remain in force until further notice.
Surcharge amount
According to the carrier, the EOS will be charged at a rate of $200, €200 or £200 per container, depending on the billing currency. Portal Portuario, meanwhile, specified that the charge will be applied at a cost of USD 200 per container.
Company's justification
MSC explained that the surcharge responds to the additional operating costs arising from the current market context and operating environment, and that its purpose is to sustain the continuity of a viable service with direct connections to North Europe.
Changes to the Main service rotation
In parallel, the company reported that it will revise the rotation of its Main service, which will now include the ports of call Le Havre, Antwerp, Felixstowe, Vigo, Sines, Piraeus, Gemlik, Tekirdag, Aliaga, Sines and back to Le Havre. MSC stated that this new rotation seeks to improve schedule reliability and offer faster rotation times, while maintaining efficient connectivity for its customers in the region.
