The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, in China, completed simultaneous bunkering operations of liquefied natural gas (LNG), green methanol and B24 biofuel for internationally trading vessels on September 30, in what the Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration (Ningbo MSA) described as a first for the country.
The operation took place in the port areas of Chuanshan, Meishan and Daxie. The vessel Hai Yang Shi You 302 supplied about 7,400 cubic meters of LNG, the Zhong Ran Lv Neng 85 delivered 7,500 metric tons of green methanol, and the Si Jie 21 provided 3,000 metric tons of B24 biofuel.
Methanol Record
According to the Ningbo MSA, the delivery carried out by the Zhong Ran Lv Neng 85 also represented the largest single methanol bunkering operation recorded to date in Zhejiang province.
Growth in LNG Bunkering
The port has been expanding its alternative fuel bunkering operations since launching Zhejiang's first LNG bunkering pilot project in June 2023. Since then, it has carried out more than 100 LNG bunkering operations for international vessels, with total deliveries exceeding 500,000 cubic meters, a figure consistent with the records released by local maritime authorities.
Methanol and Biofuels on the Rise
In green methanol, the port had completed Zhejiang's first operation of this kind in September 2025, with 222 tons delivered via tank trucks, followed by a ship-to-ship delivery of 503 tons in April 2026; volumes exceeded 5,000 tons in August before reaching approximately 7,500 tons in September. In biofuels, since its first operation for an international vessel in March 2025, the port has carried out 62 operations and supplied more than 150,000 metric tons, placing it first nationwide in this segment, according to the Ningbo MSA.
