Orca AI and Samsung Heavy Industries Launch BerthView to Assist with Berthing

Orca AI and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced the commercial launch of BerthView, a berthing assistance system that combines Orca AI's digital watchkeeper SeaPod with SVISION, SHI's berthing assistance technology. The solution creates a continuous layer of AI-based situational awareness that accompanies the vessel from open-sea navigation through the final stages of berthing.
How it works
The system uses fisheye cameras mounted on the bridge wings to generate a 360-degree aerial view of the vessel and its surroundings. Visual distance guides and a virtual safety boundary help the crew assess available clearance and distance from other vessels, quays and nearby obstacles during low-speed maneuvers in congested areas.
Connection to fleet operations
BerthView links berthing events to FleetView, Orca AI's cloud-based fleet operations platform. This allows shore-based teams to review incidents, support claims, identify recurring risks and use the recordings for crew training.
Installation and background of the agreement
The system will be available both as a retrofit for vessels already in service and for newbuilds. The launch builds on the memorandum of understanding signed by Orca AI and Samsung Heavy Industries in April 2026 to combine SHI's shipbuilding and autonomous navigation technologies with Orca AI's navigation platform, marking the shift from technology integration to a commercially available solution for shipowners and operators.
Statements
Yarden Gross, CEO and co-founder of Orca AI, said the launch is an important step in turning the shared vision of autonomous navigation into a scalable commercial reality, and that enabling BerthView as a retrofit across the existing fleet offers a powerful path to bringing these capabilities to the global shipping market at scale. For his part, Hyun Joe Kim, head of SHI's research institute, stated that autonomous navigation will be built by integrating advanced technologies on board the vessel as a single intelligent system, and that the collaboration with Orca AI extends smart navigation across more stages of the voyage.
