The Port of Barcelona's Board of Directors approved the revision of the concession granted to Creuers del Port de Barcelona for the operation of passenger Terminals A and B at the Adossat quay. The decision clears the way for the construction of a new Terminal C and, once it enters service, the demolition of the current Terminals A and B, with a planned investment of €104.5 million, equivalent to about $121 million according to Splash Cruise.
From Seven to Five
The measure is part of the agreement signed in July 2025 between the Port of Barcelona and the Barcelona City Council to reorganize and make cruise operations more sustainable, which includes reducing the number of terminals at the Adossat quay from seven to five.
Features of the New Terminal
The project submitted by Creuers calls for demolishing the current Terminal C and building a new one on the same site, with a built area of 11,253 square meters. The facility will be public and for general use by all cruise lines, and will incorporate photovoltaic power generation and onshore power supply (OPS) systems to connect vessels to the electrical grid, along with a new boarding and disembarkation gangway and the relocation of the access roundabout. More than €50 million of the total investment will go toward the terminal building.
Concession Extension
The approval also entails an extension of the concession held by Creuers del Port de Barcelona, a subsidiary of Global Ports Holding (GPH) according to Splash Cruise, which was previously set to expire in 2030 with the possibility of an extension to 2033. With this change, the concession for the new Terminal C is extended to 2050, with the option to extend it further to 2053.
Timeline and Quay Works
The last operations at the current Terminal C will take place on November 1, after which the building will be cleared out and demolished. Once the new terminal enters service, Terminals A and B will also be torn down, a preliminary step toward a comprehensive renovation of some 660 meters of the Adossat quay, which is more than 70 years old. The Port will put that project out to tender in the coming months, with a budget of €42 million, and works are expected to begin in late 2029 with a 24-month execution period.
