APM Terminals Poti, in Georgia, handled 525,211 TEU between January and September 2026, representing a 9% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The figure was confirmed by trade media that followed the terminal's operational report, which is considered the country's largest seaport.
More Calls and General Cargo
During the nine months of the year, the terminal received 336 container ship calls, compared to 268 recorded in the same period of 2025, with 45 calls in September alone. July was the busiest month, with 65,759 TEU handled. General cargo also showed strong growth, reaching 324,656 tonnes, up 61.7% from the previous year, while ferry volumes reached 162,843 tonnes, compared to 123,350 tonnes in the same period of 2025.
Capacity at Its Limit
According to Ports Europe, the terminal's head, Zviad Chkhartishvili, noted that volumes are expected to exceed the port's current capacity of 600,000 TEU, and that the practical ceiling for this year stands at around 650,000 TEU, making further expansion necessary.
New Crane to Expand Capacity
To meet growing cargo volumes and increased customer demand, APM Terminals Poti is adding a new multipurpose mobile harbor crane, with delivery expected by the end of 2026. The new equipment will raise the port's container handling capacity to over 650,000 TEU and add approximately 500,000 metric tonnes of capacity for containerized and non-containerized cargo.
Akhan Akhanov, commercial director of APM Terminals Poti, attributed the results to the resilience of regional trade flows, customer confidence and the work of the staff, and highlighted that the terminal continues to invest in infrastructure to strengthen connectivity between the Caucasus, Central Asia and global markets.
