A delegation from the Port of Santander, headed by its chairman César Díaz, visited the Zaldesa facilities in Salamanca, an intermodal logistics platform regarded as key within the Atlantic Corridor and the Trans-European Transport Network. The aim of the meeting was to explore possible collaboration on rail traffic between this logistics hub and the Cantabrian port, covering both import and export cargo.
Zaldesa's technical capabilities
During the visit, port representatives toured the platform's facilities, including its dry port, to get a detailed look at its technical capabilities. Zaldesa has an Intermodal Rail Terminal designed for handling bulk cargo and containers, and offers strategic access to rail and road networks along with direct connections to seaports, positioning it as an option for logistics operators and import/export companies linked to rail and maritime transport through the Port of Santander.
Castilla y León's weight in port traffic
According to data provided by the Port Authority itself, approximately 40% of the total volume of cargo passing through the Port of Santander originates in or is bound for Castilla y León, a figure that reflects the importance of the Cantabrian infrastructure within the logistics chains of companies in that region.
Meeting with the Mayor of Salamanca
The Cantabrian delegation also met with the Mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo, to learn about the area's future logistics development plans.
