The Port Authority of Santander (APS) has put out to public tender the drafting of the construction project and technical assistance for the site management of the renovation of the Raos 5 quay. The contract has a budget of 803,125 euros, VAT included, and an execution period of fifteen months. Interested companies may submit their bids until November 17.
Two work phases
The contract is divided into two stages: the first three months will be devoted to drafting the construction project, and the remaining twelve to technical assistance during the execution of the works. The chairman of the APS, César Díaz, explained that combining both tasks responds to the need for technical continuity between the design phase and the subsequent oversight of an operation requiring a high degree of geotechnical and structural specialization.
Greater draft and berthing capacity
During the drafting of the project, the awarded contractor will have to carry out topographic and bathymetric surveys, geotechnical campaigns, calculation of the technical solution, dredging works and environmental documentation, in addition to applying BIM methodology. The renovation of Raos 5 also envisages increasing the draft from 10 to 13 meters, which, according to Díaz, will mean greater berthing capacity and will make the infrastructure more versatile in its operation.
Part of a broader plan
Díaz noted that the Port Authority continues to reorganize its spaces to improve service provision at the public quays, and that this action complements the construction of the new Raos 6 quay, driven by the growth of the container terminal and of activity at the Espigón Norte. Raos concentrates much of the port's commercial activity, with ro-ro cargo, automobile, bulk and general cargo traffic, so the improvement aims to sustain this diversification.
