The Port of Seville and Endesa presented the new electrical infrastructure that will supply power to the future logistics and industrial developments planned for the right bank of the port, including projects linked to the aeronautics industry in the Free Trade Zone. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Port Authority of Seville, Rafael Carmona Ruiz; the Director of Endesa in Andalusia, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melilla, Rafael Sánchez Durán; and the State Delegate for the Seville Free Trade Zone, Carmen Tovar.
Investment and scope of the contract
Under the contract, the Port Authority of Seville and the Free Trade Zone will invest more than 3 million euros in the project, aimed at meeting a projected electrical demand of 20 MW. Endesa, for its part, will handle the design, permitting, construction and commissioning of the new facilities, which will provide sufficient electrical capacity for the future business, logistics and industrial initiatives contemplated in the port's planning.
Works at the substations
The technical solution includes works at the Tablada and Torrecuéllar substations, which will supply power to the right bank developments. Among the planned works, the installation of a new 66/20 kV, 25 MVA transformer at Torrecuéllar stands out, along with the addition of new medium-voltage bays and the commissioning of five new medium-voltage feeder lines, two from Tablada and three from Torrecuéllar. These works are aligned with the future Puerto de Sevilla 220/66 kV substation, whose commissioning is an essential condition for energizing the new developments within the port area.
Precedent at Palmas Altas
This contract adds to the one signed a year ago between both entities for the expansion of the Palmas Altas electrical substation, in which the port authority is investing more than 5 million euros while Endesa builds the facility. That infrastructure will support developments on the left bank of the dock, such as Seville's urban port district and the establishment of new companies in the Cuarto dock.
Electrification and the Sevilla ePort plan
According to both entities, the availability of electrical infrastructure and grid capacity is essential to attract industrial investment and advance the energy transformation of major logistics hubs, including shore-to-ship power supply for vessels in port through OPS (Onshore Power Supply) solutions to reduce the use of auxiliary engines and their emissions. This development is part of the Sevilla ePort – Green Ports plan, which Endesa and the Port of Seville have been driving since 2023 around sustainable mobility, renewable energy, energy storage and digitalization, with the aim of advancing toward industrial port communities.
