The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Seville (APS) approved the award of the tender for the management of the Port of Seville's ship repair yard to AG Seville Shipyard, S.L. The company had already been providing this service in the area, and its current concession expires in December of this year.
Area and timeline of the new concession
The activity will take place over approximately 22,000 m2 split between the current dry dock and the southern end of the Muelle de Armamento, allocated for work on afloat vessels, as well as a two-story office building that previously housed the shipyard's management offices and a currently disused launching ramp. Following this award, the Port Authority will begin processing the administrative concession, which must be approved by the Board in upcoming sessions, with a maximum term of up to 25 years.
New regulation for maritime traffic
At the same session, the port's governing body gave the green light to the Regulation governing the coordination of port maritime traffic at the Port of Seville, which brings together for the first time the technical instructions on navigation, nautical technical services, and operations under adverse weather conditions. The document was drawn up together with the Capitanía Marítima de Sevilla and received a favorable report from Puertos del Estado, becoming part of the activity of the Local Port Information Service (LPIS).
More funding for the Free Trade Zone
The Board also approved an amendment to the management assignment of the Zona Franca de Sevilla to the APS, increasing the budget for modernizing the area by 4.2 million euros, raising the total amount allocated for refurbishment to 8 million euros. The funds will be used to improve lighting, reinforce the pavement of the Polígono Industrial de Astilleros, provide electrical power, and carry out urban development works in the area.
