The Port Authority of Castellón has launched the tender process to commission a new Economic and Socioeconomic Impact Study of the Port of Castellón. This is the first report of its kind in more than a decade, as the previous one was carried out in 2014, and it will update the port's contribution to the economic growth of the province of Castellón and the Valencian Community, assessing its impact on employment and on the productive fabric as a whole.
Link to the Strategic Plan
The initiative forms part of the rollout of PortCastelló's new 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, which seeks to consolidate the port as an infrastructure recognized by and connected with the public, and committed to the development of the territory. The analysis will also comply with the common methodological guidelines approved by Puertos del Estado for the Spanish Port System of General Interest, ensuring consistency, rigor and transparency in measuring results and facilitating comparison with other ports.
Five-stage methodology
The study will be carried out in five work stages combining quantitative techniques with field research based on surveys of companies within the port community. The first stage will define the economic activities, distinguishing between direct, indirect and induced impacts, before gathering data on employment, turnover and investment among the agents linked to port activity.
Expected results
Based on that information, the work will determine the Port of Castellón's total impact on output, Gross Value Added (GVA), job creation and tax revenue returns at local, regional and national level. The report will also include an analysis of the driving effect of infrastructure investments and the strategic projects planned by the Port Authority, making it possible to see how these actions can boost business activity and job creation in the port's surrounding area.
