Portos do Paraná consolidated its position as the national leader in vehicle handling among Brazilian port facilities during September 2026, with a total of 24,200 vehicles loaded and unloaded in the month, and is projected to maintain that position in the coming months.
Year-to-Date Figures
Between January and September, the port handled 131,400 units, already surpassing the total recorded for all of 2025, when 106,700 vehicles were tallied. This growth is explained by the arrival of new automakers in the Brazilian market and the increase in imports.
Acceleration in October
Activity intensified in October: on Monday, October 26, the vessel Grande Istanbul arrived in Paranaguá, with an estimated discharge of 6,030 electric and hybrid vehicles, the largest operation of its kind ever recorded in the terminal's history. Between October 21 and 25, two other vessels had already unloaded 8,100 vehicles, and two more ships from Asia, carrying more than 9,000 units, were expected to dock before October 31.
Projections for the Year
At this pace, Portos do Paraná expects to surpass, still within 2026, the record of 135,200 vehicles registered in 2019. Flavio de Faria Rufino, ports director at Ascensus, the operator that manages the terminal, noted that the month could close with between 40,000 and 45,000 vehicles handled, a historic record for Paranaguá, and that the year would end with around 200,000 units handled.
New Brands and Infrastructure
Since August, brands such as Omoda, Jaecoo, GWM, Haval and Jetour began using the port to import vehicles, joining Audi, Renault, Fiat, GM, Volkswagen and Geely, which were already operating there. Luiz Fernando García, CEO of Portos do Paraná, linked the growth to infrastructure investments made in recent years, including the bidding process for a new vehicle terminal launched in 2020, before the surge in demand materialized.
September Figures
During September, Paranaguá led national imports with 17,800 vehicles unloaded, while exports reached 6,397 units, the highest monthly export volume so far in 2026. In terms of tonnage, the port handled 40,400 tons of vehicles during the month, almost double that of the Port of Vitória, second in the national ranking with 23,600 tons.
