Princess Cruises became the first global cruise line to launch a native application within ChatGPT, integrating real-time trip planning directly into the artificial intelligence platform. The tool connects ChatGPT with information and services from Princess's website, keeping travelers within the company's booking ecosystem.
How it works
To use the application, travelers must tag @princesscruises and install the plugin within ChatGPT. From there, they can use everyday language to explore, according to Princess, Seatrade and PRNewswire, more than 330 destinations across 17 ships, although Cruise Critic mentions more than 300 destinations across the same number of vessels. Within a single conversation, users can search for cruises by destination, date and length, compare itineraries and ships, review ports, shore excursions, cruisetours and onboard packages, as well as check current pricing and availability and adjust options based on personal preferences.
Company statements
Neena Vicente, Princess Cruises' Vice President of Digital Commerce and Experience, noted that there is a broader shift underway in how consumers discover travel, using generative AI not only to search for information but also to evaluate options and plan increasingly complex trips. She added that the launch positions Princess at the forefront of agentic commerce in the cruise industry. The application was developed in partnership with technology company Mobi, whose CEO, Andrew Boch, highlighted Princess's vision in anticipating how AI will transform the way travelers discover and interact with brands.
OpenAI's Role and Planned Expansion
Rosemary DeAragon, Head of Technology and Consumer Industries at OpenAI, said that ChatGPT aims to help people move from discovery to action, and that Princess's application shows how AI platforms and travel brands can work together to make planning more seamless and conversational. According to Princess, Seatrade and PRNewswire, the application will initially be available only on ChatGPT, with plans to expand to other compatible AI platforms in the future, subject to availability and technical requirements.
Arrival on Claude
Days after the ChatGPT launch, Princess Cruises announced that its AI-powered cruise planning application is now also available on Claude. To activate it, users must log in to claude.ai or the desktop application with an account on a plan that supports connectors, search for Princess Cruises in the connector directory, and enable it before starting a conversation.
