PTP Argentina announced a US$16 million investment to expand and modernize its terminal at the Port of Ibicuy, in Entre Ríos, aimed at boosting silica sand logistics to Vaca Muerta. The project will create 60 new jobs. The Governor of Entre Ríos, Rogelio Frigerio, visited the terminal and granted the company admission to the New Investment Incentive Regime (RINI).
Wharf works and new storage capacity
The works include upgrading the wharf, adding specialized equipment, and building a multipurpose storage cell. With these improvements, the company aims to increase its capacity for stockpiling, handling and dispatching bulk cargo, raise operational volumes, and reduce logistics costs for transporting sand to the town of Añelo, in Neuquén province. The infrastructure will also allow the terminal to diversify its activity by handling cargo from the agribusiness, mining and industrial sectors.
A project resumed after nearly 30 years
PTP Group's president, Guillermo Misiano, explained that the company is completing a project that had been left unfinished since the 1990s, and which had to be updated to meet current transport and trade needs. Misiano also linked the terminal's development to the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway (Vía Navegable Troncal), highlighting Ibicuy's location at the entrance to the system, its natural draft, and its readiness to take advantage of the new waterway concession contract.
A boost for southern Entre Ríos
Frigerio stated that the investment could boost southern Entre Ríos, a region he described as historically overlooked but with enormous potential, especially now that the province is part of the Waterway. The Governor stressed that the initiative is significant for the country's competitiveness and said that the RINI has been performing better than expected.
The Mayor of Ibicuy, Ezequiel Maneiro, highlighted the opportunity to create quality, long-term jobs, and noted that port growth could extend beyond sand logistics to incorporate other products. Also taking part in the tour was the Secretary of Industry and coordinator of the Entre Ríos Development Agency, Catriel Tonutti.
