PTP Group, a group of Argentine capital, announced on October 7th from its stand at Fruit Attraction Madrid 2026 the opening of its new refrigerated cargo terminal at the Port of the Bay of Cádiz, located in the La Cabezuela-Puerto Real basin. The facility is part of an overall investment of 35 million euros and begins operations with capacity for around 20,000 pallets, with the aim of strengthening the logistics connection for perishable goods between Latin America, Africa and the European market.
Terminal Infrastructure
The facility was specifically designed for refrigerated and frozen cargo and is equipped to handle conventional reefer vessels, Ro-Ro traffic and containers, as well as to receive consolidated groupage shipments from North Africa. It features 12 cold storage chambers totaling approximately 9,600 square meters, ADT and LAME customs-bonded warehouses, and a Border Inspection Post for controlling meat and vegetable products. The maritime frontage includes 500 linear meters of quay, and rail connectivity is complemented by the Fuenlabrada intermodal terminal, about 25 kilometers from Madrid, which will allow goods to be distributed to other European markets.
Commercial Context
According to the company, with this opening PTP Group becomes the first group of Argentine capital with its own terminals in Europe, seeking to bring Argentine and South American production of fruit, vegetables, meat and fish into the European market through its own platform. The company linked the project to the opportunities offered by the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, whose provisional application began on May 1, 2026, and which provides for the liberalization of 82% of the South American bloc's agri-food imports.
Company Statements
Diego Nieves, country manager of PTP Group in Spain, noted that the terminal is just one step away from beginning operations and that its purpose is to change the logistics matrix of La Cabezuela and the Port of the Bay of Cádiz together with the port community. For his part, Guillermo Misiano, chairman of PTP Group, stated that the EU-Mercosur agreement opens the door but that tariff reduction alone is not enough, and that it is necessary to get there first, with the cold chain intact and at a lower cost than the competition.
Institutional Support
The presentation event was attended by Teófila Martínez, chairwoman of the Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz (APBC); Pedro García Navarro, director of Port Operations at Puertos del Estado; and Wenceslao Bunge, Argentina's ambassador to Spain, who had toured the terminal days earlier and taken part in the 1st Ibero-American Forum on Economy and International Relations of Cádiz, organized by the APBC with the sponsorship of PTP Group.
