The Valenciaport Foundation obtained certification from Puertos del Estado to deliver three courses aimed at professionals responsible for the security of ports and port facilities. The certification authorizes the institution to issue official certifications aligned with international and national regulatory requirements, and the first editions of these programs will begin to be delivered starting in 2027.
Three specific courses
The certified training offer includes the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) course, of 30 hours, aimed at those who will be required to draft and implement Port Facility Security Plans, assess risks and identify threats. A 12-hour Port Facility Security Officer Refresher course will also be offered, intended for active professionals who need to renew their certification before five years have elapsed since its issuance. Rounding out the offer is an 18-hour course for Port Facility Personnel with Specific Security Duties, focused on those who carry out operational security tasks such as access control or threat response, in accordance with the guidelines of the ISPS Code.
Practical methodology
According to the approved training project, the courses will be delivered using an eminently practical, in-person methodology that will combine theoretical sessions, case study analysis, technical visits to ports and final assessment tests.
Statements
Ana Rumbeu, Training Director at the Valenciaport Foundation, stated that the certification from Puertos del Estado endorses the institution's commitment to security in the sector and that, starting in 2027, professionals will have access to in-person, specialized training focused on practical skills and the latest technological tools, to ensure efficient protection of port infrastructure.
Next steps
The opening of the enrollment period, tuition costs and the detailed schedule of the 2027 course sessions will be published on the website of the Valenciaport Foundation, a Spanish port research and training institution based in Valencia.
