The Brazilian company Reiter Log announced an initial investment of approximately R$30 million to launch a container transport operation departing from the Port of Rio Grande, in Rio Grande do Sul. The service will use gas-powered trucks, fueled preferentially by biomethane.
The initiative marks the company's entry into this line of business. Reiter Log's ESG Vice President, Vanessa Pillz, explained that entering this segment, in which the company had not previously operated, expands its capacity to serve customers with decarbonized logistics through biomethane-fueled trucks. Pillz added that the company's strategy aims to offer a comprehensive logistics solution combining sustainability and operational efficiency.
The new operation is linked to the construction of a group plant in Capão do Leão, also in Rio Grande do Sul, intended to produce biomethane to fuel the vehicles used in transport.
The company had also announced the purchase of 220 gas-powered Scania trucks. With this acquisition, Reiter Log projects surpassing 600 vehicles running on alternative fuel sources within its total fleet. According to the company, more than 40% of the fleet already uses these technologies, which it credits with a reduction of more than 15,000 tons of CO2 emissions over the past year.
