Santos Brasil announced a new R$75 million investment through 2028 in Tecon Imbituba, a container and general cargo terminal located in southern Santa Catarina. The amount adds to the R$36 million already invested over the past 18 months, of which R$33 million was allocated in 2026, bringing the total invested in the terminal to R$111 million over a period of roughly three years.
New equipment for the wharf
Among the most recent additions is a mobile harbor crane received in early October, which joins the two existing ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes and will enable the addition of a third shift for container handling during vessel operations. The plan also includes the purchase of 12 truck chassis, two lifting frames, six reachstackers and an empty container stacker, along with the installation of a new scanner and the expansion of reefer plug capacity.
Technological modernization
The terminal's modernization cycle also included the launch of an Operations Control Center (OCC) implemented in 2025, the new OPUS-TOS terminal operating system running since July, and an upgrade of the wireless network that will incorporate 5G technology. According to the companies cited, these improvements aim to provide greater safety and agility to operations, optimize yard, gate and berth flows, and facilitate customer access to the company's digital platforms.
Record container volume
Between January and September 2026, Tecon Imbituba handled 131,263 TEUs, surpassing in just nine months the previous annual record of 123,681 TEUs set in 2024. The terminal operates four regular liner services, three long-haul and one coastal (cabotage) service, and this year added ten extra calls, which accounted for 11% of the total volume handled through September. Charles Thibault, Terminals Director at Santos Brasil, noted that reaching the annual record three months ahead of schedule reflects the terminal's evolution and customers' confidence, adding that the company seeks to stay ahead of demand by investing in technology, infrastructure and efficiency to establish itself as a key logistics solution in southern Brazil.
Strategic location
With capacity to handle 450,000 TEUs per year, Tecon Imbituba is located between the capitals of Curitiba and Porto Alegre, near Florianópolis, and features multimodal connections by road (BR-101 highway), rail and sea at a sheltered, deep-water port. Integration with Tecon Santos, also operated by Santos Brasil, allows cargo moved through Imbituba to access a broad network of international routes, connecting production from southern Brazil with major global markets.
