Seatrium Limited and Karpowership marked the naming and departure of the LNGT Türkiye, the seventh and final floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) delivered under the seven-vessel conversion programme carried out at Seatrium's Admiralty Yard.
The programme, launched in 2018, converted seven LNG carriers into FSRUs: LNGT Africa, LNGT Asia, LNGT Europe, LNGT Antarctica, LNGT Americas, LNGT Oceania and LNGT Türkiye. These units operate alongside Karpowership's global Powership fleet, supplying clean and reliable feed gas to floating power plants, thereby reinforcing energy security and flexible grid access across four continents. Converting the LNG carriers involved complex integration work on cryogenic, marine and gas-handling systems.
Final project before shipyard handback
The LNGT Türkiye also carries special significance, as it is the last Karpowership project completed at Seatrium's Admiralty Yard before the yard's scheduled handback to the authorities in 2028. Ersen Ayanoglu of Karpowership highlighted the operational trust built together with Seatrium's engineering teams throughout the programme, while Alvin Gan of Seatrium noted that the company has carried out more than 90% of FSU and FSRU conversions worldwide and that both companies are looking to expand their collaboration into new Powerships and offshore energy solutions.
New projects underway
Following the delivery of the LNGT Türkiye, Seatrium secured a contract from Karpowership to convert a new LNG carrier into the FSRU LNGT Akdeniz, the ninth conversion awarded by Karpowership to the Singapore-based yard and the second under a 2025 letter of intent covering three LNG carrier conversions and potential integration of next-generation floating power plants. Work on the Akdeniz is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. In parallel, Seatrium is already progressing with the conversion of the LNGT Karadeniz, the eighth project under the partnership, which began at the Tuas Boulevard Yard in the third quarter of 2026.
The LNGT Akdeniz will join Kinetics, Karpowership's LNG infrastructure and energy transition business, expanding its fleet to 12 LNG vessels as part of an operation that includes 45 floating power plants. Gokhan Kocak, Chief Technical Operations Officer at Karpowership, described the delivery of the LNGT Türkiye and the award of the Akdeniz contract as important milestones for the growth of the company's gas-to-power business, in a context where Seatrium has carried out 22 FSRU and FSU conversion projects since 2007.
