The Mar del Plata Regional Port Consortium opened the bids for the tender called to demolish the port's grain gallery, receiving offers from seven companies interested in carrying out the project. The bid opening took place on Friday, October 30, according to several specialized media outlets covering the process.
The structure to be demolished is currently out of service, measures around 340 meters in length and up to 27 meters in height, and is located on Pier 3 of the Mar del Plata port. The project has an official budget of $3,823,012,066 and an estimated execution period of 210 calendar days. The intervention does not include the silos that were used years ago for grain storage.
Objectives of the Project
Marcos Gutiérrez, President of the Mar del Plata Regional Port Consortium, highlighted the number and quality of the companies that took part in the process, noting that several have a solid track record at the national level. He explained that removing the grain gallery will improve safety conditions and optimize operational space for general port activity, in an area close to one of the busiest berths for vessel traffic.
Scope of the Works
The tender specifications include the demolition and dismantling of towers, stairways, slabs, beams, partition walls and columns that are part of the grain loading gallery. The structure extends from the first set of columns and partition walls starting at the grain elevators to the end of Section 13a of the pier, an area used for vessel mooring and loading and unloading operations. The tender conditions expressly prohibit the use of explosives as a demolition method.
With the seven proposals now submitted, the Port Consortium will move forward with the technical and economic evaluation of each bid to determine which one meets the specifications and offers the best value before awarding the contract.
