Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of its third jetty at the SLNG Terminal, located on Jurong Island, Singapore. The project responds to the growing LNG bunkering demand facing the Asian nation.
Capacity and features
The new jetty, scheduled for completion in the second half of 2028, will be able to accommodate LNG carriers ranging from 5,800 to 80,000 cubic meters. Unlike SLNG's existing jetties, this facility will be dedicated to small and medium-sized vessels, enabling it to handle more bunker refueling and break-bulk cargo operations. Once operational, it will support approximately 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of refueling demand, and together with existing infrastructure, SLNG will be able to reach up to 3 MTPA of total LNG bunkering capacity.
Ceremony and market context
The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by SLNG Chairman Gan Seow Kee and the company's Chief Executive Officer, Leong Wei Hung, with the participation of Roger Chia, Chairman of Rotary Engineering Pte. Ltd. According to Manifold Times, Singapore established itself in 2025 as the world's leading LNG bunkering port, and global demand for this infrastructure is expected to keep growing, with around 1,700 dual-fuel LNG vessels projected to be in operation worldwide by 2029.
Bio-LNG Certification
In parallel, the SLNG Terminal obtained certification under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification EU (ISCC EU) scheme for handling Bio-LNG, also known as liquefied biomethane (LBM). The certification covers storage, regasification, bunkering and truck loading, allowing customers to track and account for fuel handled through the terminal under that framework. The new jetty will also be equipped to handle this lower-emission fuel.
CEO's remarks
SLNG Chief Executive Officer Leong Wei Hung noted that as LNG bunkering demand continues to grow, Jetty 3 will strengthen Singapore's capacity to sustain the next phase of growth in the sector and reinforce its position as a global LNG bunkering and trading hub, while also contributing to the shipping and energy industry's transition toward lower-carbon fuels.
