The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and Deme Group held a meeting to explore possible avenues of cooperation in dredging, maintenance of marine units and construction of dredger hulls. The meeting was led by SCA Chairman and Managing Director Ossama Rabiee, who received the Belgian company's area director, Amedeo Peyron.
A relationship spanning more than 70 years
The meeting took place within the framework of a cooperative relationship between both entities spanning more than 70 years in the field of dredging and marine engineering. Rabiee expressed appreciation for the strategic partnership between the parties and underscored the SCA's interest in maintaining joint coordination in order to stay up to date with the latest global technologies in the field of deepening works.
Fleet modernization and new projects
The head of the canal authority noted that the SCA succeeded in modernizing its dredger fleet with the addition of the vessels Mohab Mamish and Hussein Tantawy. Rabiee also highlighted that the scope of work of these units was expanded to carry out national megaprojects beyond the Canal, such as the development of Egyptian ports and the dredging of lakes.
Maintenance and hull construction
During the meeting, Rabiee explored opportunities for cooperation in the maintenance and repair of dredgers and marine units at SCA shipyards, and forms of collaboration in dredger hull construction were also discussed. According to Ports Europe, the talks specifically included the maintenance and repair of dredgers and marine units at SCA shipyards and partnership for the construction of dredger hulls.
For his part, Peyron expressed Deme Group's expectation of continuing to work alongside the SCA, recalling the company's participation in dredging works on numerous Canal development projects. The executive added that the extensive collaboration with the SCA opens business opportunities for joint projects and for the exchange of specialized expertise in the field of deepening works.
