Super Porto Verde, the new port terminal operated by Super Terminais in Itacoatiara, Amazonas state, began operations with the shipment of around 27,000 tonnes of grain corn bound for Morocco. The project required an investment of R$ 250 million and aims to expand logistics capacity for moving Brazilian agricultural output through the Arco Norte (Northern Arc) corridor.
Location and structure
The terminal is located about 175 kilometers from Manaus and occupies a port area of 300,000 square meters. The floating structure is 240 meters long and 18 meters wide, with a surface area of 4,320 square meters, and is equipped with three Sennebogen 895E electric cranes, among the largest of their kind in the world, with an operating capacity of up to 2,100 tonnes per hour.
Berthing and operating capacity
According to Super Terminais, the configuration allows for the simultaneous berthing of a Panamax vessel of up to 50,000 tonnes and six barges, with an estimated operating time of up to 36 hours. The company clarified that this hourly capacity and timeframe are reference figures presented for the project and not results reported from the first cargo operation.
Ship-to-ship transshipment without onshore storage
The operation was designed for direct transshipment between barges and ocean-going vessels, without intermediate onshore storage. According to Transporte Moderno, the first operation took place on October 11 and was announced in a statement on the 19th, and the Arco Norte corridor accounted for 46.12% of Brazilian corn exports between January and July 2026, as well as 39.03% of soybean shipments in the same period, according to data from Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab).
Company statements
Super Terminais' CEO, Marcello Di Gregorio, stated that the completion of the first transshipment marks a new chapter in the company's history and in that of the North region, and said that Super Porto Verde strengthens Amazonas' role in agricultural commodity export logistics while creating new jobs in Itacoatiara. The company also noted that the infrastructure is part of its sustainability strategy, as waterway transport is among the lowest-carbon-emission alternatives for moving large cargo volumes over long distances.
