Thordon Bearings has opened a third manufacturing plant in Burlington, Canada, as part of its strategic response to growth across all of its business segments and to rising demand for its sustainable bearings and seals. The new facility aims to expand production capacity, reduce lead times, and provide room for the development of future products.
Location and production
The plant, named Plant 3, is located at 3180 Mainway, just steps away from the company's head office at 3225 Mainway. It will primarily house manufacturing of the water-lubricated TG100 mechanical seals and the water quality packages intended for the marine and hydroelectric markets. The new facility will also be home to Thordon's New Product Development team and to the operations of its sister company, Marsh Brothers Aviation.
More space and more staff
According to Anna Galoni, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Thordon Bearings, the expansion allowed Thordon and MBA to optimize the layout of their assembly, machining, and office areas, improving production flow, productivity, and efficiency. The new plant also frees up capacity at the 3225 Mainway head office, which will be dedicated to manufacturing and to bringing on additional staff, at a time when the company's workforce has grown 32% since late 2023, with new hires in administration, sales, and production. The company expects to continue expanding its workforce as it brings on new talent.
Opening ceremony
The opening of Plant 3 was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Member of Parliament Karina Gould, Member of Provincial Parliament Natalie Pierre, and Terry Caddo, President and CEO of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce. Galoni noted that Burlington continues to offer the company a skilled workforce, strong government support, and a high quality of life, as well as serving as a connection hub for its international customers, and she emphasized that the proximity between the two plants strengthens collaboration between teams and the company's work environment.
