The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) approved the partial suspension of the administrative concession granted to Valencia North Terminal (VNT) in order to align the construction project for the container terminal at the Port of Valencia's north expansion with the progress of the works already underway. The project submitted by VNT in July 2026 raises the private investment to 1.656 billion euros, compared with the 1.011 billion euros initially planned.
Execution Deadlines
The final deadline for the works remains at 58 months, with completion still scheduled for August 2029. However, the partial deadlines have been extended: partial deadline 1, covering 50 consolidated hectares and 500 meters of quay wall, is extended by 9 months to July 17, 2027, while partial deadline 2, covering 1,500 meters of berth and an adjacent area of 99 consolidated hectares, is extended by 8 months to July 17, 2028. The extension responds to incidents detected during the execution of the works, including the impact caused by the DANA storm and the incorporation of new technical solutions following the submission of the construction project by the concessionaire.
Font de Sant Lluís Terminal
The Board also ratified the second amending addendum to the agreement signed by the Ministry of Transport, the Generalitat, the Valencia City Council and ADIF to facilitate the execution of works on the Valencia Font de Sant Lluís Intermodal and Logistics Terminal. ADIF is carrying out the work to bring Phase 1 of the terminal into operation, whose initial budget of 35 million euros was increased to 37.4 million euros to accommodate the project update. The addendum also creates an inter-administrative cooperation body between the APV and ADIF to oversee and monitor the terminal's management.
Desembocadura Park
The port authority also approved an agreement with the Valencia City Council for the construction, maintenance and upkeep of the future Desembocadura Park. The agreement, with a four-year term renewable for another four years, provides for mixed financing: the APV will allocate 16.2 million euros to works within the port service area, while the City Council will contribute 15.6 million euros for actions outside that area. The Port Authority will be responsible for tendering and carrying out all the works, while the City Council will handle the drafting and technical direction of the project, as well as ensuring the park's maintenance once it opens.
Port-City Integration in Gandia
Among other agreements, the Board approved an addendum to the agreement with the Gandia City Council that will allow the tender process to begin for the urbanization project around the fruit warehouses (tinglados) and the controlled area of the Port of Gandia. The initiative, financed by Valenciaport, has a base tender budget of more than 6.8 million euros (8.2 million euros including VAT) and covers an area of 24,987 square meters, of which 1,894 square meters will be landscaped areas, in addition to a parking area with 78 spaces. The Gandia City Council has committed to the upkeep and maintenance of the spaces once they are put to public use.
