Technology groups Wärtsilä and WinGD signed a new long-term Service Framework Agreement, reaffirming their shared commitment to supporting shipowners and operators worldwide. The agreement builds on the collaboration in place since 2015 and confirms the continuity of Wärtsilä's role as authorized global service provider for WinGD, Wärtsilä and Sulzer brand two-stroke engines.
Flexibility for customers
According to the companies, customers worldwide now benefit from greater flexibility and choice of service provider, as both WinGD and Wärtsilä offer expertise and support capabilities on a global scale. The goal is to help shipowners and operators maximize their vessels' uptime, optimize maintenance planning, and prepare their fleets for future fuels, evolving technologies and decarbonization requirements.
Statements from company executives
Dominik Schneiter, CEO of WinGD, stated that the promise to customers is reliable, responsive and ongoing support throughout the entire life cycle of their engines, anytime and anywhere. He explained that this new agreement with Wärtsilä complements the company's own service offering, Global Service by WinGD, ensuring uninterrupted global support and providing access to the best available expertise for each engine generation. For his part, Roger Holm, President of Wärtsilä Marine and Executive Vice President of Wärtsilä Corporation, stated that the agreement confirms the continuity of a long-standing service relationship that has supported WinGD's installed base for more than a decade, guaranteeing shipowners and operators access to Wärtsilä's global service network, technical expertise and life-cycle support, including long-term life-cycle agreements.
Origin of the relationship between the companies
WinGD was established in 2015, when Wärtsilä sold its two-stroke engine business to China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). Since then, WinGD has remained the OEM technology leader and acts as the global service provider and licensor for all two-stroke engines under the WinGD, Wärtsilä and Sulzer brands, while Wärtsilä continues to provide genuine spare parts, field service, workshop capabilities, technical support, long-term agreements and decades of experience with the installed base.
The new Service Framework Agreement reflects the long-term relationship between both companies and aims to give customers confidence that they will have expert, authorized support throughout the entire operational life of their engines.
