Since mid-September, the Muelle Sur at the Port of Huelva has had a new regular container shipping connection to northern Europe, operated by the shipping line WEC Lines. The service was officially presented at the Huelva port in mid-October, in an event marking the formal inauguration of the line.
Route and Transshipment at Setúbal
The new port call is part of WEC Lines' weekly ISS-PT service, which uses two of the company's own vessels to connect the ports of Valencia, Alicante, Cartagena, Almería, Nador, Málaga, Gibraltar, Huelva, Setúbal, Sines, Cádiz, and back to Cartagena and Valencia. Setúbal serves as a transshipment hub synchronized with two other services operated by the shipping line, enabling cargo to connect with destinations in northwest Europe such as Liverpool, Dublin, Thamesport, Montoir, Antwerp, Moerdijk, Rotterdam, and Hamburg, with transit times optimized especially for Huelva, as it is the last port of call on the rotation before Setúbal.
Service Features
The service is operated by two specialized vessels with a capacity of 868 TEUs each, on a 14-day rotation. The shipping line offers various types of equipment, including 45-foot HCPW containers and 40- and 45-foot reefer containers for the transport of frozen and perishable cargo.
The Launch Event
The presentation at the Muelle Sur was attended by the Port of Huelva's director, Alfonso Peña; the Head of Business and Commercial Development, Jaime Beltrán; the Managing Director of WEC Lines España, Patrick Ram; and the company's Line Management Director, Marc Gnurlandino, among other institutional and business representatives. Prior to the event, a commemorative plaque was presented to the vessel's captain to mark the inauguration of the regular line at the Huelva port. WEC Lines, founded in Spain in 1973, operates an extensive network of regular container shipping services across various international markets.
