The polar expedition vessel World Navigator departed on Sunday morning from the Tandanor shipyard, in the City of Buenos Aires, after completing inspections and hull surface treatment work. The vessel set course for the Port of Montevideo, Uruguay, as a stop prior to its new Antarctic season.
It is a Portuguese-flagged vessel, 129 meters in length overall and 18.90 meters in beam, intended for expedition cruises in polar regions. During the Northern Hemisphere summer it operates in the Arctic, while during the Southern Hemisphere summer season it carries out expeditions to Antarctica.
Port Call in Montevideo
After leaving the Buenos Aires shipyard, the World Navigator is scheduled to carry out provisioning and crew change operations in Montevideo before continuing its voyage to Antarctica to begin the expedition season.
Tandanor and Polar Vessels
According to sources, Tandanor is seeking to establish itself as an attractive option for the maintenance and repair of polar expedition vessels thanks to its strategic location on the Río de la Plata, its technical capabilities and its certifications, in a segment that requires high safety standards and technical port calls compatible with the itineraries of this type of vessel, which sail in cold and remote waters.
