YPF closed the third quarter of 2026 with an adjusted EBITDA of US$2,503 million, the second-highest result in its history, posting year-on-year growth of 84%. The company attributed the improvement to the boost in unconventional oil production at Vaca Muerta.
Production at Vaca Muerta
Shale oil production averaged 224,000 barrels per day during the quarter, up 32% from a year earlier. Capital expenditure for the period totaled US$1,287 million, of which 70% was allocated to unconventional developments. YPF noted that in October there were days when production topped 250,000 barrels per day.
Revenue and Financial Results
According to figures presented by the oil company, YPF posted revenue of US$6,557 million during the quarter. The company also reported net income of close to US$1,200 million and free cash flow of US$900 million, a figure that comex online put at US$901 million, the second-highest on record according to Argen Ports.
Expansion and Infrastructure Projects
The Vaca Muerta Oil Sur (VMOS) pipeline reached 85% completion as of the end of September and has already received the two single buoy moorings for its export terminal in Río Negro, with exports expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027. YPF also announced five projects in northern Vaca Muerta worth US$44,000 million under the RIGI incentive scheme, and is moving forward with Argentina LNG, whose first phase envisages a liquefaction capacity of 12 million tons per year and investments of around US$29,000 million through 2031, with the final investment decision expected on November 26.
Biofuels and Foreign Trade
YPF operated without gasoline or diesel imports during the third quarter, repeating what happened in the second quarter of the year. In the first nine months of 2026, the company's biofuel purchases totaled US$891 million, up 31.4% from the same period in 2025, while gasoline and diesel exports reached US$2,113 million, up 53.7%. Over that period, YPF's net income stood at US$2,810 million, compared with a loss of US$150 million in the first nine months of 2025.
