Crude Oil Exports Surge 40% at Houston Ship Channel in 2026
Trade activity across the Houston Ship Channel region strengthened in 2026, with crude oil exports surging 40% and driving a 22% increase in overall regional exports. Houston accounts for 31% of U.S. waterborne exports of crude oil and refined products. Steel imports at Port Houston facilities jumped 49% year over year to 529,085 tons in August, while loaded container imports rose 5% year to date, reflecting seasonal demand ahead of the holiday season.
